Updates & Week 9.7-9.11

Hello Parents and Families!

I hope everyone had a relaxing and rejuvinating long weekend! Over the past week, we began our unit on the 5 senses. We learned about our sense of sight, and our sense of touch this week.

On Tuesday, we began learing about our sense of sight. The students took a nature walk, and using their seeing sense practiced identifying and tallying items they viewed in nature. We came back together as a group and discussed which items they saw the most and least of during their walk. We continued to practice AB patterns using the different colors of eyes people can have, and we learned about how everyone has different eyesight and vision. Afterwards, we painted colorful images using various paints and forks as painting tools. We also celebrated our friend Karina Pina, who turned four years old on Monday, Sept. 7th! Happy Birthday Karina!

On Wednesday, the students brainstormed items they can see in the world. Then we worked on illustrating and labeling 4 pictures of items we can see. Students are using phoenemic awareness to 'stretch out' letter sounds and sound them out to assist in writing out words during labeling. Afterwards, we painted colorful images using straws to blow and experiment with paint and air on our papers. We also did some sorting and graphing of all of our 5 senses items during math, and practiced building numbers using pipe cleaners.

On Thursday, we began learning about our sense of touch. The students brainstormed items they can feel in the world using their skin and hands. Then we worked on illustrating and labeling 4 pictures of items we can feel. Again, the students practiced using phoenemic awareness to 'stretch out' letter sounds and sound them out to assist in writing out words during labeling. Afterwards, we painted pictures by feeling and using rocks to paint by rolling them and stamping them around in the paint, and used our hands to build tall towers and creations. We also practiced using our sense of touch to play mystery bags; being blindfolded and using descriptive language to help our friends identify and guess whats in the bag.

On Friday, we played 'touch ballons,' where we felt different items (corn kernals, rocks, salt, flour, etc.) hidden inside balloons. We then brainstormed and guessed what would be inside each ballon before we did the touching item reveals! We also practiced independantly playing mystery bags with blindfolds and using descriptive language. Then we made some water and chalk art drawings, and practiced feeling the mushy chalk and wet water. In the afternoon we did show and tell time with items brought from home.

Check out images below of our students working, learning, and playing this week!
